Split of the Day – unlikely production from your 4th outfielder

Cody Ross was a 26 year-old journeyman earning the league-minimum in 2007 after posting a .227/.293/.431 slash in the NL the previous season.  Late that summer he exploded onto the scene for the last place Florida Marlins.

The 20 games that Fredi Gonzalez had Ross batting in the 6th slot in ’07 the young fella was a monster:

.362 BA

.439 OBP

.828 SLG

7 HR

6 2B

Cody Ross went on to be a playoff hero for the Giants and has racked up $14m in earnings through age 31.  Here’s to comebacks!
